Our students share their many Success Stories - Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Part 2I had no idea about how to present the video for the oral exam. Not only have I learnt how to do a thorough MSE of a child on a 10 minute video, but this will be valuable to me in my clinical practice as well. I am confident about my interviewing technique, case formulation, diagnostic abilities and assessments. I personally would not go to the boards without attending this course. Jack Krasuski is committed to helping candidates pass these exams. His honesty and integrity are sincerely appreciated. The course is relevant and highlights pertinent aspects of the exam that candidates need to be aware of. The class size is small enough to benefit maximally. The thing I liked most was that the course was tailored to all three aspects [i.e., the adolescent patient interview, video exam, and vignette exam sections] of the Child Boards, because the way information is presented at the exam is different and can be very confusing.American Physician Institute for Advanced Professional Studies’s approach, while it considers every section different, provides a method that is flexible, universal and coherent. Also, being made of smaller groups sparks good discussion, feedback, support and even networking. The [Beat The Boards!] course struck the right balance between didactic/syllabus materials and actual in vivo test practice. Loved the summary notes. I found it very helpful; it served as a wake up call for me that I'll need to do more mock oral exams before I take the exam. It will enhance my note-taking skills, my conciseness of clinical interviewing and the way I conceptualize treatment (I will relate treatment to syndromal problems more). I had my doubts coming in since it was the first course. But I'm glad I attended. I feel I am prepared to take on any video and vignette. Great work by Drs. Friedman and Krasuski. This course has helped me focus on improving key areas in preparing for the child oral boards. In particular, there is a method to this madness, especially with the video and vignette portion of the exam. I would recommend it highly. This course was fabulous! I learned a review of concepts which were not covered during my fellowship despite I had the blessing of training in one of the top 10 nation fellowships. No child fellowship is complete enough to provide everything we need to be the best child psychiatrist possible. Meeting with so many successful faculty and colleagues provide me with an intense child psychiatry “boot camp.” This experience will not only help me with my boards, but throughout my career. The relationships I’ve developed with faculty and colleagues are a blessing I will take with me for life. Thank you to Jack and to all of your staff. Excellent course. I feel this course and previous courses have been an excellent experience for me. It has shed light on certain aspects of material that need further clarification in my mind. The handouts have been excellent; makes it easier to review. The feedback from faculty regarding interview taking and areas of improvement has been great.
Detailed mental status exam for children on vignette/video section is invaluable. This has been a very educating experience for me, not only for my exam, but for also practicing as a proficient child psychiatrist. Great course to be prepared for the boards and your practice. The course was very helpful. I would strongly recommend it to all child psychiatrists. I have found these board review courses very help for preparation for my boards. This is my third course. I have taken the Adult Part 2 course and the Child Part 1 and passed my exam both times. Now I am taking the Child oral review and feel prepared for my exam.
